Ancestral methods to create exceptional wood-fired ovens
Four Grand-Mère has been manufacturing wood ovens in the Vosges since 1981 using refractory chamotte, which is a ground terracotta also produced in France.
Very quickly, the founders designed the prototype of an oven that they called ‘Le Ménager’. The idea was to reproduce the appearance of the wood ovens of yesteryear, by manually lining the oven bottom, roof and entrance arch with bricks cut one by one.
This oven, which has since been renamed ‘Le Marmiton’, has given rise to our Excellence range of brick ovens, including 4 heritage-style ovens intended for family use.
Four Grand-Mère is still today the only company in the world that produces hand- bricked ovens in kit format. This unique expertise – and many others! – has helped us since 2020 to obtain the Living Heritage Company (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant- EPV) label, the only French government label that rewards the excellence of the skills or our bricklayers.

Completely insulated with thick layers of the latest insulation materials, like high- temperature mineral wool, our ovens also absorb the heat very effectively, before gradually releasing it over long hours.
So, you can prepare excellent homemade bread, casseroles, gratins, lasagne and tarts, all without having to turn on the fire.
Among the innovations developed to simplify your life are the doors of the Alfred range ovens. Pretty ingeniously designed to work with the Venturi effect, these doors let in a little fresh air from underneath.
