Our Ardente range of wood-fired ovens is designed for fans of flame cooking who want to treat themselves to Four Grand-Mère quality at the best possible price. Built with a thick refractory fireclay floor and roof, these ovens reach the desired temperature in just 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Ancestral methods to create exceptional wood-fired ovens

Four Grand-Mère has been manufacturing wood ovens in the Vosges since 1981 using refractory chamotte, which is a ground terracotta also produced in France.

Very quickly, the founders designed the prototype of an oven that they called ‘Le Ménager’. The idea was to reproduce the appearance of the wood ovens of yesteryear, by manually lining the oven bottom, roof and entrance arch with bricks cut one by one.
This oven, which has since been renamed ‘Le Marmiton’, has given rise to our Excellence range of brick ovens, including 4 heritage-style ovens intended for family use.

Four Grand-Mère is still today the only company in the world that produces hand- bricked ovens in kit format. This unique expertise – and many others! – has helped us since 2020 to obtain the Living Heritage Company (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant- EPV) label, the only French government label that rewards the excellence of the skills or our bricklayers.

An authentic taste of wood-fired cooking combined with modern comfort

« La vraie cuisine au feu de bois : goûtez la saveur d’autrefois ! » [The real taste of wood-fired cooking: enjoy the flavour or yesteryear!]. That promise, which appeared in the first Four Grand-mère adverts, is still proudly respected today, with the latest innovations.
Their refractory chamotte structure and parabolic-shaped roof ensure that our wood ovens are very quick to heat up and generate excellent radiation throughout the cooking chamber.
This is the optimum formula for preparing delicious pizzas in less than 3 minutes, and searing sausages and kebabs in just 4 to 6 minutes!

Completely insulated with thick layers of the latest insulation materials, like high- temperature mineral wool, our ovens also absorb the heat very effectively, before gradually releasing it over long hours.
So, you can prepare excellent homemade bread, casseroles, gratins, lasagne and tarts, all without having to turn on the fire.
Among the innovations developed to simplify your life are the doors of the Alfred range ovens. Pretty ingeniously designed to work with the Venturi effect, these doors let in a little fresh air from underneath. Thereby, the glass remains clean for a long time, enabling you to enjoy the flames effortlessly.
